Math Course 2 Syllabus
Ms. Jones room 232
Students will be using Holt Mathematics Grade 8 by Holt McDougal, common core edition. Students will be focusing on the number system, expressions and equations, proportional relationships, lines and linear equations. They will be analyzing and solving linear equations and pairs of simultaneous linear equations. Students define, evaluate and compare functions, as well as use functions to model relationships between quantities. Our geometry focus will be congruence, similarity, volume of solids and the Pythagorean Theorem. We will investigate patterns of association in bi-variate data as well.
The following Chapters will be covered:
Students are prepared with materials every day-pencil, notebook, books, homework
Students will fill in their warm-up sheet everyday and hand in on Friday for a grade
Students will have homework almost daily; look in your child’s agenda, as they are to write a daily calendar with class work and homework defined
All work should be done in pencil only
Please check powerschool often for updated grades
Assignment policy:
Students may hand in late assignments, however there is a deduction per day.
Attendance:
It is expected students will make up all missed work after they return to school within two days of their return.
Students can find missing work in the absent folder at school and should copy all missing calendars from their partner in their agenda. It is expected they do this work as soon as possible so they do not fall behind the rest of the class.
Grading:
Total Points: 100 Tests 60% Quizzes 30% Assignments 10%
I’m looking forward to a very successful year. If you have and questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at the school or email [email protected]
